Brand new 7D. I’m in Cancun on business for a day. Got up early to go and take some shots of the sunrise. I put on my 10-22mm lens, left my room, and walked down to the beach. When I looked through my viewfinder, I couldn’t see anything. Tried to focus and nothing. Looked at the front of my lens and it was fogged over. Humidity.
I brought the camera back to my room and the lens cleared up pretty quickly. I looked through the viewfinder and there was definitely still some moisture somewhere between where I was looking and what I was looking at. I haven’t touched the camera since. So. Have I damaged my camera? If so, how badly? Do I have salt issues? What should I do? I appreciate any help. I’ve read a lot about putting a camera in a bag before going from cold to warm, but didn’t even consider I would have a problem going from 70 degrees in A/C to 80 degrees outside. |

It's not so much the 10 degree temperature change but the severe humidity change (Ie probablt about 10% to 100%). Essentially the same as walking from a hot desert to a hotter sauna. Temperature won't be a huge difference, but the 0% humidity of the desert is a polar opposite to the 100% humidity.
Chances are you had some condensation on either the rear element of the lens, mirror or focus screen of the camera. All are easy enough (though fragile) to clean.
