Default Canon SXi And Lens Choices?

I recently purchase the Canon Xsi and I'm interested in purchasing an additional lens or two....My question is can or does my Canon XSi support the L Series lenses, or am I restricted to the EF and the EF-S lenses only?....I recall reading an article somewhere and I my have read it incorrectly, thinking that my XSi and only use the EF & EF-S lenses?....Thanks!

The L lenses are all EF (or TS-E) lenses, all of which will work on the XSi.

EF and EF-S indicate the mount of the lens: Canon EOS. The TS-E are tilt-shift manual focus lenses, which is why they get a different designation, but they're also Canon EOS mount, and can be used on the XSi.

L is a quality designation, not a mount designation. Marketing says it stands for "Luxury" and Canon's engineering says it stands for Low-dispersion. The main distinction with L lenses is that they use special glass elements with low-dispersion characteristics (better chromatic aberration control). Such elements can be flourite glass, or UD (ultra-low dispersion) glass.

And most L lens prices (with a few exceptions) start around $1000.
