Is it worth it?

I was browsing the pawn shop earlier today and found an Canon XT with 18-55mm and 70-300mm lens for $319. I put it on layaway, considering I cant afford that much at one time. I have 60 days to get it out. Im just wondering if it is worth it? Did I find a good deal? This will be my first DSLR camera, so Im new to all of this.

My gut said thats a decent deal, and a couple minutes on ebay tells me your in the ballpark.. So for something that you can hold in your hands to verify how it looks (scratches, etc) thats not too shabby of a place to start!
