Default Gear upgrade advice

Hi,

I'm new to this forums... so "hi everybody!"

i've been shooting with my EOS 10D for the last 7 years now. She has always been a trusty companion and she still delivers images that i'm both proud of and satisfied with.

But ever since the EOS 5D Mark I was introduced i dreamed about full-frame.

Now i need your advice... what to do next? Here is my list of Lenses:
EF 50mm f1.8 II
EF 70-200mm f4 L IS USM
EF 24-105mm f4 L IS USM
EF 100 f2.8 USM

as such my gear is full-frame ready (with the exception of the 50mm perhaps) should i move up to the 5D Mark II? Find a used 5D Mark I? Invest in a EF 16-35 f2.8 L USM? I'm at a loss here...

Perhaps a list of things that annoy me with my 10D will help you give me advice:
- as i am shooting in RAW the 10D takes her time writing a full image buffer to the CF... Faster image processing would be very welcome.
- the 6.4MP resolution does not allow large prints
- the high ISO performance is not that great... shooting at 400 ISO results in noticeable image noise.

being wedding photographer (firstly but doing loads of other shootings too) i frequently find myself in lowlight situations...

so what is your advice?

Thanks!

The 5DMk2 is better at low light than the Mk1 - The Mk1 is still a very nice camera. The 10 is getting old, but as you say, you still enjoy images from her.

The 5DMk2 will giving you much quicker write times combined with the right CF card.

The Mk2 is expensive.

Do you need full frame? What about something like the 7D?

With upgrading to the 5DMk2 comes bigger CF cards, hard drives, 24mb raw files and lots more developing times (Due to sheer size of files and how much longer the process of uploading to drives / backing up / developing / storing / backing up again takes...

I love my Mk2... (But, I still love my 30D, too)

Maybe hire in a Mk2 / Mk1 and use them for a day?

Good luck in your journey!

7D gets my vote. If you can swing it, the 5dMkII would be great. You've got a great lens selection: your body just needs an upgrade.

Yeah, I'd probably go with a 7D. Doesn't seem as if you need full frame and the 7D will fix ALL of the problems you're experiencing. It's also one kick-ass camera.

Wedding photographers could do well with either the 7D or 5D Mk II. Head to the DPReview or Photo.net forums and you'll see loads of Canon wedding photographers using those or 40D's. Jeff Ascough uses a 1D Mk IV, but that's probably out of your range if you're talking about a 5D Mk II.

Chris on ThePhoblographer.com uses both the 5D Mk II and the 7D. The former can be had refurbished for around $2,000 now. What you can do then is keep the 24-105 on the 5D Mk II body and the 100mm on the 7D and get a really good range of coverage.

18MP and 21MP is big enough for large prints as well. The other thing is that they have sRaw modes too that have 10MP options so you don't have to invest in another hard drive yet either.

If you're a wedding shooter, I wouldn't hesitate on the Mark 2.
