I would consider the EF-S 10-22mm lens as a good wide angle lens on the 7D. Because of the cropped sensor you need to multiple all the focal lengths by 1.6 to get the 35mm film equivalent so the 10mm gives the same field of view as a 16mm lens on 35mm.
Build quality is good for a non L-series lens and the image quality is excellent and there is no obvious vignetting at wide angle. |

As Kev suggested, the only ultra-wide angle option you have is the 10-22. If you want something that is just wide, then the 17-55f2.8 or 17-40f4 may be an option, but they won't go anywhere near as wide as the 10-22. So, it really depends on how wide you want to go.

Canon's EF-S 10-22mm USM is a really good lens. It's sharp and got good colour rendition. As far as ultra-wide lenses go, this is the one to get.

Just to add to this I'm look for the same thing a good UWA and from what I have read the Tokina 11-16mm f2.8 is sharper than the Canon 10-22mm and cheaper. Ok its got less of a zoom but thats not an issue for me, anyone used them both who can give a comparison between the 2.

Quote:
Both lenses have significant amounts of CA and barrel distortion on the wide ends, though. Par for the course with ultrawides.
