Default 5D mark II or 7D?

I'm pretty new to the site here and I think this is my second post.
I currently have a T1i and I'm looking to upgrade. What is better, the 5D mark ii, or the 7D?
Is it possible that the 5D mark ii will be upgraded soon?

Thanks for any help.

It depends on what you need. What type of photography do you do - portraits, sports, etc.?

It's a hobby for me. I travel a lot and see a lot of different places and that's how I got into it. I don't really have a certain type of photography that I do. Somedays I walk around a new city for a few hours and take pictures of pretty much everything.
How's that for a vague answer? Sorry I can't be more specific.

I do take a lot of pictures of my little niece, but not enough that I would say I specialize or focus more on portraits.

Both are wonderful cameras and it would be hard to make a bad decision.

If it is a hobby for you and you are not really big into portraits but like to take "pretty much everything", the 7D might be a good choice for you. It is almost $1000 US cheaper which could buy you a very nice lens to go with it, perhaps the Canon 17-55mm f/2.8 IS.

Just so you know, I own both the lens and the 7D body, so of course, it is just my opinion .

Thanks for the info.

I'm really unsure what to do. I currently have the 24-70 F2.8L, the 70-200 F4, a 100MM F2.8 IS macro, a 10-22 that I'm not sure works on the 5D, and the 50mm 1.8. I have the T1i with the kit lens that I will sell (T1i and the lens) when I upgrade.

I wouldn't have any idea what lens to buy at this point. I was thinking of maybe getting a speedlight transmitter if I got the 5d; I think the 7d has one in it. I'm really just looking at upgrading the body. I'm happy with the lenses I have right now.

Do you know how long the 5D mark ii has been out? I think the 7D is about six months old, correct?

Thank you for the help.

Think it's been out since Jan. 2009. I haven't heard of any upgrades yet, but you never know.

Looks like you have some nice lenses already, so you may not need any more at the moment.

The 7D does have a wireless transmitter which is a wonderful addition to this camera.

For non-specific genres of photography, the 7D is the choice - it's burst rate and AF speed is better than the 5DII (which was released at the end of 2008). Plus, as Linda pointed out, it's cheaper and you'll be able to spend the money you save on glass or other gadgets.

The reasons I have a 5D2 over the 7D are image quality (because I shoot lots of portraits and weddings), to maximise the field of view of my wide angle lenses and for weather sealing (because it rains at weddings sometimes ).

Had I been looking for something more general purpose - I probably would have gone for the 7D.

Thank you for the responses. I appreciate it.

I'm leaning 7D but I'm not fully decided yet.

Is there a clear winner between the two in the high ISO battle?

I only have the 7D so I can't do a direct comparison myself, but from what I've read, the 5D mark II is better at high ISO settings. That being said, the 7D is no slouch at higher levels and is a big improvement over the 50D. I moved up from a Rebel series camera, so of course, the difference was amazing to me.

Unless you do a lot of shooting where you need the higher ISO, I'm not sure I'd worry about it.

Okay. What Rebel did you move up from?

Will I notice a significant improvement from the T1i?

What ISO settings are you getting decent shots at?

I seem to be lucky to pull off 800 with my T1i and it's pretty ugly at 1600.
