Default Sigma 28-70mm f2.8 EX DG

Anyone have experience with this lens? I'm thinking of picking one up for my 50D for my inside shots. I would PREFER an L series lens, however, I just bought the 50D and I also am upgrading my Mac so I'm on a bit of a budget....at least until I sell my Nikon gear.

Thinking it might keep me going until I have enough funds to pick up a better lens. I have a Sigma for my Nikon and I've been pleased with it so far.

The reviews seem to be positive about it as well.

just had a look at dis lens SIGMA 24-70 F2.8 EX DG MACRO(i hope it's the same lens and not the expensive HSM ver) at the local camera shop, had a go with my friends 500d,
i must say dat i absolutely loved it, will definitely pick 1 up fr my self wen i buy my dslr.

the only thing i dont like abt dis lens s that it is at the longest at 24mm(length wise) and if ur takin picx indoor with the onboard flash then it does block it from 24mm to abt 35mm approx, if this is not a problem,
then go for it,

zoom ring is a bit too stiff but hope fully shud get smooth with time, build quality seems to be nice but now where near the canon or nikon equivalent, at this price i'm not complaining

requires 82mm filters which r expensive,

Cheers!!

I'm looking at the less expensive one as I'm on a bit of a budget after just buying the 50D and some other things. Yes, I'd prefer to go with an L series but don't have the funds.

I won't be shooting with the built-in flash and that lens so that won't be a problem.

Wondering if it's worth it for this or should I save and get their next step up which is another $200. Then I'd have to consider the Tamron 28-75mm as well as they're in the same ballpark price-wise.

Tamron AF 17-50mm f/2.8 SP XR Di II LD Aspherical [IF] (Canon) - Review / Test Report

i think the canon 17 85 n the 28 135 are also in the same price range, worth havin a look, or jus get a 50 1.8 for now.

Cheers!!!

I have a 50mm f1.8, just not quite long enough, which is why I'm looking at a mid-range zoom. Unfortunately, I'm on that budget so my options are limited.
