I have the option to do a T1i or a XS. Each will come with a tele lens and either a case or a memory card. My question is what are the main differences other than the mega pixels. Also I was told that over 10 megapixels is redundant for amateur photographers. Any help would be appreciated I like to do macro and have twin babies and a 4 year old which will be primarily my photo subjects. I like to learn about my hobby so a P and S is not an option. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Hi szuzu - I'm a T1i owner myself. If the differential in cost between the two is not an overriding factor for you, I'd definitely advise going with a T1i. The main differences lie in the fact that the T1i does indeed have more megapixels, but it also has a better LCD as well as a broader ISO range. The T1i can also shoot video, which the XS does not.
The XS is the cheapest of Canon's DSLR bodies, & is a great camera, however, if you do end up choosing that for cost reasons. I remember doing my research when I was looking for a camera & the XS is supposed to be a better performer than the T1i for some things like resolution, white balance etc. But I've never had a problem with mine for my level of photography.

More sophisticated AF system, and the ability to use a wireless remote, too.
The T1i is more than worth the difference in price, in terms of usability, imo.
