Default Price of used Canon g5's

I was wondering if anyone could tell me why the canon g5 is still fetching over £100 plus second hand? I am only asking as my old powershot s40 died a few weeks ago. That said I thought I might pick up a used model that as some manual controls not wanting an dslr I thought of one the "g" range but to my surprise they seem to be very popular considering the age of the g5.
If I have to buy a newer version is the latest the g11 the best "seems to be same price as g10" on the internet.
Hope some one as experiance with the models and would kindly comment.

Thanks
Gary

The G11 is a considerably better camera than the G10 because Canon updated the sensor and lens combination.

The G5 and G6 were, I believe, the last of the Gs that you could use a remote control with (well, until the G11 came out). That makes it very amenable to hacking for things like 3D rigs (you get two G5s, mount them side by side so you get the right/left separation and then use the remote interface to sync the shutter buttons.

Or so a stereographer-hobbyist friend of mine says.

The Gs were always the top-of-the-line P&Ses in the Canon lineup. So, even the old ones are still desirable.

Addendum: Aside from the G11, you may also want to get a look at the S90: same sensor as the G11.

I have a G5. I bought it from new and I keep it in the car so I always have a camera to hand. The image quality is pretty good for a P&S. I wouldn't sell it if I was offerend £200 for it, because it's so versatile. I aim to use this to teach my kids about shutter speeds and apertures and stuff; nice intro camera.

Here's a pic it took with my G5:

My advice, if you can get a G5 for around £100, you have a bargain.

Hope this helps?

regards,

Jeff
