Default Is it possible to use computer monitor as viewfinder?

I have a Canon Rebel XSI. I am horrible at self portraits and get tired of running back and forth between the shot and the camera. Is it possible to connect the camera to my computer monitor and use it as a viewfinder? I have a remote shutter release. I think my self portraits would improve if I could set up the shot by looking at the computer monitor.

If your camera is the same as the Canon 450D, it would also have LV or LiveView.
Using Canon Utility Software (disk that came with camera) Utility 2.0 via USB coonection, it may be possible to hook up to your monitor. The software should first be installed to the computer before connecting.
Cheers!

This is correct, there is a way to hock up you camera to your computer via usb, you just have to install the program that came with the camera. This is the main reason why im looking at purchasing the Xsi

Yes, this info is correct, you install the EOS utility onto your laptop/PC, plug in your camera via USB and selct the live view mode on the PC. You will then see the live view image on your PC and not in the camera.

It's great for focussing and taking test shots BUT and it's a VERY BIG BUT in your case... when you plug your camera into the PC and use live mode, your camera remote will not operate; you have to click the shutter button on the PC.

If you have a wireless mouse or pointer, problem solved, if not, you'll have to set everytihg up on auto, note the settings, switch to manual and use the self timer.
