Default Is this a good price?

My friend is selling his Canon 30D & said he'd probably only want $250 for just the body. I was looking at getting a new Canon 1000D until he mentioned he was selling his camera. I'm still learning, so really only need an entry level DSLR....

Is this a good price for that model?

Am I just best to stick to my original idea and get the 1000D?

Any advice would be very much appreciated!

For a 30D? Yes, $250 is a very, very good price for a 30D body. You normally find 350D/XT's and 400D/XTi's for that price.

Between a entry level body and a intermediate level body, you'd be better off with the intermediate level body. It's much more robust and has much better controls.

You may want to compare the two bodies side by side if possible and get a feel for each. The 30D will be much bigger than the 1000D/XS. When I place my 400D/XTi next to my 40D, the 400D/XTi looks like a toy.

$250 AUD? That's giving it away. It's a very good price. Even $250 USD would be a good price if the camera's working fine.

If you don't mind the additional heft of the 30D, I think you'll find it to be pretty much better all the way 'round than the XS/1000D.

Thanks everyone - I just have no idea about the models that are above entry level. I have looked at the 1000D & really liked it, and seeing as I really am just a beginner, I haven't even looked at other models above what I need.

I don't have a clue how old the 30D is, so no idea what a good price for it is, where as I have a much better idea on the 400, 450, 500 & 1000 D's. Hence why I posted the question on here LOL!

Oh yes - I forgot to say that it is AUD$. Apparently he can get camera's pretty cheap through his work, and he's probably only asking $250 because it's me if you know what I mean? He can get me the 1000D with the standard lense for $700 - but my hubby can get a better deal than that anyway through his guy hehe......

Thanks again guys - this advice is invaluable!
