Default RAW image capture issues

Hi. I hope I'm in the right place to ask this question. My newly aquirred second hand 50D is taking RAW images but CS3 or CS4 in both Vista and XP can’t open them. CS3 and 4 worked well with the previous camera (400D) and RAW but not this one. I have tried RAW, sRAW1, sRAW2 on the camera settings and still no luck. I tried a different data cable without luck. I have tried opening direct from the camera on someone elses PS with no luck. I am about to tear my hair out. I have this beautiful camera and awesome programs that won’t let me use RAW. Can anyone point me the way to fix this problem. Please.

Go to canon's web site and download the software if you do not have the disk. and also get the raw updates from adobe.

Take a peek at this page, you might have to update the ACR. I don't think CS3 will open 50D files at all.

Adobe - Adobe Photoshop CS4: Digital camera raw file support

Camera Raw 4.6 will work with CS3 and the 50D

Adobe - Adobe Camera Raw and DNG Converter : For Macintosh : Adobe DNG Converter and Camera Raw 4.6 update

edit: the above link is for the Mac version. If you're using Windows, you'll need to do a search for the Windows version, or simply check for updates from within the software.

Another option is to convert the RAW files to Adobe DNG with the Adobe DNG converter. You will then be able to work on the image files in CS3 or CS4 and the image files will be in a standard file format, not a proprietary RAW format.

When I bought my Canon a couple of years back I got with it Canin's own DPP (Digital Photo Professional) Besides being able to fix basic Brightness/contrast, Hue/saturation and so on you can convert Canon raw to Jpeg and Tiff
