Default G11 for Mongolia expedition

In terms of the settings I need (Av, Tv mode etc.) this seems like a pretty good idea, but I'm very concerned about the build quality. If I drop it/get it damp will it die instantly?

My #1 choice would have been the Olympus Mju Tough 8000, but it doesn't seem to have the Aperture/Shutter modes etc... please correct me if I'm wrong!

If neither of these work out, is there another model I should consider? I basically need a fairly weatherproof, resistant model with aperture and shutter control.

Thanks,

lale

My G10 is QUITE sturdy, but I don't think it's terribly weather resistant.
Get a flash to use with it as well (the RD2000 is compact). Or if you really want to get fancy, get an external flash that can be triggered by the camera's built in flash (or TTL thru a sync cord).
Being an "expedition", I would expect to encounter some situations where the poor low light performance of a P&S would be a problem. Having the ability to at least add some bounce flash could be very useful.

You might want to consider one of the compact 4/3 systems as well. Panasonic GF1, Olympus EP-2, etc. A bit more money, has it's limitations, but better performance overall.

If you don't mind the added bulk (and cost), you could always get the WP-DC34 underwater housing for the G11. Or maybe go for an S90 and a WP-DC35.

If you want weather-proof, you may have to give up the idea of PSAM modes and just go for an Oly Tough or a Canon D10.
