Default Beach Scene: Before and After

Before:
(see attachment)

After:
Cave Rock

The original shot lacked contrast (as most of my shots do straight out of the camera) and the colour wasn't very exciting. I thought maybe a mono conversion could emphasise the bleakness of the rocks.

Post production:
Cropped slightly
Converted to mono using Adjustments --> Black and white ---> Maximum Black (I found this method made the sky darkest)
Using Curves, created an S-shaped curve to increase the contrast
Added a slight vignette using Filter --> Distort--> Lens Correction

The black and white version is definitely more dramatic.

Black and White is much better. I can see the vignette. Have you tried giving it more? Specially towards the bottom right. Guiding the viewer towards the lighthouse(?).
Just a thought

Just added some tint and a vignette. Using Adobe Camera Raw and Photoshop. Also eliminated some of the noise in the sky.

Thanks for the comments! ramirez0715, I like your version, I think a stronger vignette is a good idea. Can I ask how you managed to remove the noise?

I used Nik Software DFine 2.0. U can also try give it a gaussian blur in photoshop (or similiar program). then play with the layer styles and opacity to give it a smoother feel (less noise).
