Default new to Elements 8/ dog portrait

hey, I am very new at photoshop elements 8. I would like to ask if this second one looks any better or worse than the original. The area in question is the bottom left where there is too much white/washed out look.

I was really having trouble getting the white changed any without being too noticeable. to me the second one is noticeable but I was wondering if it was like that to everyone else or just me. Also, did the adjustment even make a difference ?

It certainly does make a difference at the border between the leg and the sheet, but the slightly washed-out whiteness is still there. IMO, it looks ok, but if you really want to make is less bright, I suggest masking it veeeery carefully, then lowering the brightness of it! I'm not very familiar with elements though, so I can't offer you the know how of exactly what buttons to click!

Few options available to you, depends on what you want to achieve?

1) Try going over the over exposed white part with the dodge/burn tool. (Create a new layer first and then work on the new layer).

2) Use the clone tool to nick the blanket from elswhere:

3) Another option might be to crop the photo and do something different altogether?

It's a shame the paws are out of focus, try using a higher number f/stop next time to enhance the depth of field.

i personally didn't even notice the white washed-out area in the bottom left. my gaze went immediately to your dog's big gorgeous eye, and then that amazing white color pattern going down his chest.
