Default wood strips

i don't know if this is the right thread for this. i took the shot of the girl in the early '80s using kodacolor film. i did not like it so i put it aside. when computers became popular, i tinkered with my 1st computer, a powermac 8500 whuch was fast that time. i was using photoshop 3 then. i scanned the photograph, converted to b/w and made the background black. i took a photo of my daughter's cello and scanned it and placed it in the background since i thought they were similar in shape. i still was'nt happy with it. i wanted to present it in a different way. i changed the image size to 30"X40" and played around with a plugins and converted it to straightline screen with number of lines or resolution set to 3.5 per inch to produce a line about 3/8 of an inch thick with varying width depending on the density. the darkest part became a very thin line while the lightest portions were 3/8" the grays were a little thinner.
i tiled it and printed it then glued the tiled prints together to make a 30x40 image. i cut the lines to make about a hundred strips. i then glued the strips to the 3/8 side of a hundred pieces of 30" x 3/8 x 2. i then carved out the black areas leaving the white areas and shaved off the remaining print to reveal the wood. after about a week of carving i glued the wood strips consecutively on a piece of 30x40 marine plywood. the space between the strips create the dark portion and from about 6 feet you can see the image.
so, technically, this is still photography. a low resolution image, outputted on wood instead of as a print

I am sure the impact of viewing it in person is very dramatic. And I think the original capture is a perfect subject. I commend you, that is a lot of work.

That is great work. you put a lot of work into that, and it was well worth it! Both pieces of work visually stimulating.

Wow!! What a brilliant piece of art work. To me it does not matter how you got there - it's the final result. Definitely worth all the hard work. Thanks for sharing with us and also the details too.
