Smile Grandmother-in-law age 14

This is a photo of my grandmother-in-law when she was 14 years old. My grandfather-in-law I'm told carried this with him into battle during WWII. One of my cousins scanned in thousands of my wifes grandparents photos, including this one. I received 3 DVD's of pictures, this is but one. I used lightroom(2.1) in an effort to learn more about the software... Cleaning it up didn't take to much time, about 30 minutes or so. I'm pretty happy with it. I am glad I was able to remove the crease(pretty much)... I have not shown it to her yet, but I Imagine she'll really like it. any advice?

very nice, but in my opinion, the shadows are more harsh. and the picture looks slightly more grainy.

Is that because I over sharpened possibly? I looked at the settings I had and the masking value was at 78, I've turned it down to like 20. I also had the darkness overall brought up some, I wanted to the shadows in the picture to show more than the original, but your right they were to strong... this is the second cleanup.

To my mind it is still too sharp. You maybe want to sharpen selectively, like a bit on the eyes and that's all. These old photos tend to be soft, but that is their charm We usually clean up some of the dirt spots as well as creases, which the healing tool does a great job of on monochromatics, but I also use the patch tool. Sorry these are Photoshop terms, never used Lightroom so not sure of its tools. Nice job cleaning it up
