Default Statue of Lord Guan

Never been a big fan of post process. But here's a try on a otherwise dreadful photo. Please feel free to be wet blankets. Cheers.

Can you tell us what steps you took to get your final result, which I like by the way

Hi Windrider86,

Thanks for the comment. And my apology for missing out on work details.

I vaguely recall applying following steps via almighty GIMP:

1. convert the image to B&W using channel mixers, except the little red ribbon;
2. sharpen the image using unsharp mask;
3. carved out the statue, then reduce the level and blur the rest of the image;
4. vignette the image by gradient blend tool.

I'm a hobbyist photographer and even more amature with GIMP, and I'm really glad to have some feedback regarding the result on this photo. Thanks sincerely again, Windrider86.

Kind regards,
FTE

Maybe its just me, but I think the background competes with the statue. In the after, nice job BTW, I think the background stands out even more. It keeps drawing my eye away from the statue.
