Default Mabry Mill, HDR before/after

This is m favorite shot from my Blue Ridge Parkway trip last weekend.

Before
Mabry Mill Va

After
Mabry Mill VA

There were soooo many people here that day. I'm amazed that I managed to catch only one person in the background. They said this is one of the most photographed sites in the U.S.

Nicely done. Sometimes the simplest edit is the best choice.

Oh, sorry. I loosely followed an HDR tutorial. My goal was just to brighten it a bit.
Thanks!

i looked at it and at first was like....you didnt really do anything but then i started to notice the differences and great job on an HDR, finally not a totally horrific overdone one!!! if anything i would say maybe do just the littlest bit more maybe, but otherwise looks great!

I think you did a really nice job with this. Did you do this with a single image? I like the fact that you did not go for the typical "over-processed" or excessive use of tone-mapping your image. Don't get me wrong, for some images the surreal look works but not in this case. Well done!

Yea.. you can pretty much just do that by shooting in RAW and adjusting slightly in Camera Raw, and you D40 CAN do that.

I only titled it HDR because I 'loosely' followed an HDR photoshop tutorial. I didn't want to do too much, because I didn't want to take away from the rustic feel of the photo. So, I followed the HDR steps for photoshop CS3, but only changed lightly. Yes, this was only one image. Someone here showed me an HDR tutorial using several images and I'm planning to practice that very soon. I agree, the 'overdone' HDR effect can be fun and interesting, but I prefer to keep my photos realistic, but colorful.

I am also planning to play with RAW soon. I've not tried that yet. I have another post on here that I did following the same tutorial, but a bit more dramatic.
