Thanks for the comments. This is more or less how I did it.
I found a canvas background that I liked. I Googled Canvas Texture, and found this one: http://fc05.deviantart.com/fs14/f/20...y_SolStock.jpg I uploaded it into Photoshop on a second layer (first layer was the original bird) I then proceded to erase out the bird on the second (canvas) layer. Once the shape of the bird was erased, I selected the first (bird) layer and picked the Artisitc Filter, Canvas Effect. This is done so the bird have also a canvas look, and won't look as if was cut and pasted. I went back to the canvas leyer, and did some adjusting with the colors, and I think I also did a blur filter.I also lowered the opacity of this layer to about 60% Finally I merged down the layers, change the colors a little bid and did a second pass on the Canvas filter with all the elements already merged. The last step was to add some vignette The first time I saw this effect on a picture was from a woman who is a member of the photography club I belong to. She does such a nice job (here is a link to two of her pictures: http://photos3.meetupstatic.com/phot...s_6857558.jpeg http://photos1.meetupstatic.com/photos/member/4/4/8/6/highres_6857542.jpeg She does everything from scratch, meaning she does her own canvas backgroud manually. She is considering putting together a class on how to do this, so hopefully I'll be able to learn from her. |

I have only been experimenting with using textures for the past few weeks. I use PS Elements and the CoffeeShop free Texture Action. Rita CoffeeShop Free PS/PSE Actions!(at CoffeeShop) offers many free actions for Elements, PS and Lightroom. Here's an example of one I have done:

jgomez, if you had posted the after shot, alone, I would swear you had painted it. That is very nice.
PP has so many variables, I just wish I had discovered photography at an earlier age. |
