This was an experiment and from the results i think it was the wrong pic to use but makes portraits a bit grundgier and the subject look a bit older and more unkept I guess. I am going to get more into this technique for sure ther eare some out there doing amazing portraits like this. The people who are all about the real look and feel might not like it though more of an over worked look on some.
this is the after shot being draganized...... Here is second version not so desaturated....

from what i can get on another forum conversation it will work much better on an older person who has wrinkles and is more aged. Men with eye creases and five o'clock shadows work really nice. I just did this one in a couple minutes but am really going to get some shots of my dad and give it another go.

Hmm, not sure I like it. It makes you look like a magnetic vampire with iron filings stuck to your face.
However, it did bring out a lot of detail in your cap. I can see where it could be used to good effect though. I'll be waiting for your next attempt.

I really like it! It's not flattering, but that's not the look I think you're going for. I think you did a great job pinball.

The second one is a lot better. Your skin has a better color in it. The whiskers still see a bit too pronounced for me though.

I don't think the effect on the face is bad at all. I think (and since you said it probably wasn't the ideal picture for this I don't feel bad saying this), that if you used a different picture it would work better. A lot of the examples that I've seen have used darker backgrounds with this effect. Maybe because it goes with the grungy look of it. I also downloaded a Photoshop action of this from atncentral... (they also have one for B&W)... they are the two actions by Mike Warren. Just search for "Dragan" on the page.
