Default Car glamour shot

I actually shot this picture last summer and thought it was OK at the time. The car is a 2007 Ford Shelby GT500. Now that I have discovered Photoshop all my old pics are new again.

To go from before to after mainly involved blurring the background. I adjusted the white balance, increased the contrast a bit, sharpened, and added a bit of Diffuse Glow just to give it a bit of dreamy look. After all, it is a dream car for some.

Before:

After:

Now that is sharp! You did an excellent job with this shot. The depth of field treatment is superb, and the saturation and sharpening make the whole shot pop! Great work!

I think the original is better.....I really don't like the blurred background in the second one.

It's just OK in my opinion.

#1 - You over did it with the contrast, you've lost all details in the blacks. This really ruins the photo in my opinion.
#2 - the blurred background looks chinsy.
#3 - The diffuse glow is just as chinsy - Not my thing.
#4 - You have a VERY tight shot, it's not that complimenting to the car really.
#5 - The background is rather dull and doesn't do much to add anything to the car or the overall composition.

Good luck,

~Eric

Here's a few that I've done that may add some credibility to my criticisms (before you blow me off entirely).

Hey I appreciate all the opinions. I value the negatives as highly as the positives. Keep 'em coming.

Great photos Eric. Although the last one could use some cropping on the right hand side, IMO.

I'm not sure I think that's fair, because while I like your last two, IMHO your first two don't do anything for me. To me, looking at the back end of a dark car, a long way away, (with heavily clipped blacks by the way) is not very dramatic or eye catching.

I think the difference here is that he took an existing, casual capture, and made something definitely print worthy. I thought the improvement was nice. I think it's fair to critique the processing, and have an opinion on what might have looked better. But that's about it.

No offense meant either. Just an observation.

I am NOT a fan of FORD NOR MUSTANG, but I love this shot...I like the blurred background for that shallow depth of field look. However, you did loose the detail in the black grille, that mesh pattern that would have been nice to the photos details of the car. I wouldn't have did the glow either IMO I like the sharpness of a car, don't wanna see a glowing car. But fantastic work on the shot before and after.
