Smile Sweet!

Hi Carolyn, I tried your process and it came out spectacular - Thanks!

Now I gotta spend countless late nights to go through my old portrait pics... oh boy.. this is not going to be good for my self-portraits. =D

I know, after using this technique, I have to try and resist to keep doing it

Default Close but no cigar

Dear Carolyn,
Your attempt to gimping your sister's portrait went too far I think and she looks rather anemic on my screen. More important than levels adjustment is the composition of the picture. You cut the image so that your sister's chin is right at the edge of the image. Give the poor girl some space to breathe please and allow at least one or two cm below her chin.
Best regards,
Julian

Now I am very new to photography... and know next too nothing!

But I like this portrait! And I like the "Croping" or "Framing" of the image as well! I would assume your sister is happy about it as well!

I say good job!

1. Duplicate the layer, and then desaturat it
2. Set the layer mode to "Screen"
3. Put the layer opacity to 79% (depends on photo)
4. Alter the Contrast/Brightness slightly (depends on photo)
5. I then used the burn tool, to improve the colour of her lips slightly

Hope you like it
Carolyn, I think you did an amazing job on your photo editing! Wow! However, being a relatively frustrated PSE lacky, I am trying to follow your directions on a photo of my own, but having a difficulty. When you say you "desaturated" your photo, did you make it completely b&w? Also, where is the "screen" function? I am sorry to be such a dork, but I really want to learn how to edit correctly!
