Default Airbrushing, fake lights and other changes

There were a lot of steps involved here, but I am going to break it down by steps along with a link to some tutorials that are very easy to follow.

1. Airbrushed the face and skin. You can follow this tutorial:
Superb Skin Airbrush Technique | Photoshop Tutorials

2. Cloned out some parts of the background (it is a garage door what you see in the background)

3. Created the rays of light. Here is an easy tutorial that you can follow to do that:
Mystical Light Shaft | Photoshop Tutorials

4. For the picture without the fake rays of light I just added some vignette in PS. Finally cropped the picture and I after two hours I was done

This picture was taken this week at a local photography club. This is my second time shooting with studio lights. The first one was a disaster, but thanks to the feedback of DPS members I was able to improve (see how my first pictures came out)

Anyway here are the pictures. I would like your to know your oppinion on the rays of light (too fake/distracting?)

Original Shot:

With rays of light

With vignette

These look good, but I just have to say... I think the rays of light should go on the opposite side. As it is you have them shining on the side of her face that is in shadow, rather than the side that is lit..

This, plus you left the edge of her nose a bit too hard. It almost looks like it has a corner.

I have to disagree with you. If you look at the hair, there are highlights on the left side but not on the right. If you put the rays of light on the right, it wouldn't look natural.

What I am seeing, is a large light from high left, and fill (or bounce) light from the right.

You are exactly right. That was the setup we had at the studio. Here is an unedited photo showing the light on the left side

I like the vignette one better...the light beam one is a tad too bright...a little distracting.

Alright. I can see that now.

You are really fortunate to have a local photo club that meets when you can go. I work second, and the photo club here meets during the week at night.

((To those that have photo clubs, DON'T forget the second shifters. There are a lot of second shift photogs like me out there that would really like to get involved in a club. Saturdays are best for us.))

Too bad no one had some gray paper or curtain to block the door, that would have really helped in the end. Decent job cloning it out though, There are some parts of the door left, but I had to zoom in close to find them...(left side of hair directly over shoulder-top and bottom, on the right and left, there is just a little left there as well) it will be OK for maybe a wallet, but by the time you get to a 4x6/5x7, which is about how far I had to zoom it in, I imagine it will be noticeable.

Here is a zoomed in screen capture to show you what I'm seeing.:

Just a couple more minutes of cloning will take care of it.

Man you have a good eye!

I missed those spots.

You should check www.meetup.com that is where I found the club, maybe you can find one that meets on Saturdays.
