Default Ripples

Before
039c.JPG
After
Ripples

The before image is taken in low light level rainstorm and not particularly sharp.

1. Boost the blacks’ factor in Photoshop raw to make the ripples stronger.
2. Make a levels layer to clip the range to the history gram
3. Make curves layer and boost the profile colour blue to bring out the blue lines and brighten the terracotta tiles.
4. Saturation layer to boost the warmth
5. Sharpness layer to boost the edges of the ripples and create shadows.
These steps are similar to Helen Bradley’s steps on improving photos shot from an airplane window.
6 flatten image
7 duplicate image into another layer
8 apply a watercolour sponge filter effect on the second layer and reduce opacity to about 25%
The idea is to add a touch of the oil painting effect.

Flatten image again and framed.

The point of all this was to create an abstract form of the ripples and bring out more details.
And yes it’s heavily processed in PSP, which was the aim.
Throw in any opinions/ comment if you wish

Very nicely done. One may have thrown the first one away, but you made a great shot from it.

It's amazing what some processing can do for an image.

It looks a bit noisy - is that more visible at full size?

Default noise on ripples

hi thank you all for comments
yes wulf there is a little noise, and it may appear more obvious when larger. i think it was overdoing the sharpening mask and perhaps too much boost in the black slider in the PP raw dialog.I chalk this up to learning how to focus better in the rain in order to avoid using so much sharpening!

i was attempting to repeat previous settings which i had used before and had forgotten to write down somewhere. so i had to more or less guess. it is almost a one of a kind.

i had done this on two other images which have a cropped version of this "ripples" image.
i think they look a little cleaner than this one.

( this one is the process on four images in a collage, so might be cleaner)

thanks again
