Default Adding More Depth

This is the first time I am posting one of my photos here so i hope you like it.

My camera is horrible. I have a 6MP Kodak pocket digital camera but I am looking to buy a much better camera in the near future, was considering the Canon SX1 IS (if anyone has this, feedback would be appreciated ).

I had discarded this photo for sometime but I wanted to have a go at it again in photoshop and this is the result.

Before:

After:

Process:
1. I adjusted the balance of the photo towards magent/yellow/cyan, on the Shadows.
2. I then had to work on parts of the photo seperately, the car, the road and the sky since some of the detail needed different effects for depth.
3. For the building, I converted it to black and white. Making the reds a bit of a more prominent black than others.
4. Overlay the building with the one from step 2 and play with the opacity.
5. Add some saturation. You may also want to paint in some detail. And some levels also helps bring out the details.

Thanks in advance for all feedback!

Please describe the process that you used to get from the 'before' shot to the 'after' one.

I really like your "after" photo.

Thumbs up

Excellent results! I love how the car pops against the background...old meets new. Nice work, well done!

Another fabulous example of never deleting "ho-hum" shots.

I think you did excellent job!
I probably would've cropped a tiny slice from the bottom but pp-wise it's all good.

Excellent job! The car really stands out from the background in the after shot and the colors are interesting as well.

Great Edit. IMO, you may have stopped a little short. Some creative cloning would more effectively sell the "old vs. new" theme. Something like this, perhaps???

Edit for Xavarion copy

Cloned out the wires to the building, across the building, and down the front to that box
Made the painted lines go away. Oh, and the oil spots under the front as well.
Some kind of pipe thing that bothered me in the hole above the hood... Gone.

I thought about changing the color of the car, but stopped short. I like the white against the old building.

Thoughts?

I must admit, I really like cruising the forums for pics to play with. Thanks for the indulgence

BTW, Your pic is not visible to the public on my Flickr page. If you want me to remove this post, I will.

God Bless.

First of all, thanks alot for your great comments!

- Steve: I like what you did, but I think I personally prefer it with the white lines. but removeing those electricity lines did improve the composition of the photo. Thanks

-kencaleno: I am not quite sure what you did in your take?
