Before and After

Edited in Lightroom 2.2
The only thing that I did to the original file was convert it from RAW to jpg so I could upload it to the web.

The main things that I did to this photo were increase the contrast a lot, increase blacks, add a vignette, vibrance and saturation just a touch. If anyone is interested, I could post the whole workflow, but didn't think it was necessary.

Original:
1/200, f/5.0, Shutter Priority, 50mm, ISO 400

Poor abandoned thread....

A good practice is to increase the contrast in the eyes to make them sparkle.

I love the black tones that you brought out. It adds a great contrast to the colors of the coat.

You made a big improvement on this one, nice work! Good bump in contrast without losing all the detail in the blacks, and that's the #1 thing that was needed. I probably would have skipped the increased saturation - maybe even gone the other way. The puppy is mostly B/W, but so it mainly makes the pink tags kinda glow and stand out, distracting ever-so-slightly from the uber-cuteness of the puppy.

As a matter of taste & preference, I think vignette is a good effect for this shot, but it starts to darken his ear in the upper right. If there's a way to pull it back or lighten that ear, I think it'll push the vignetting back into the background where it belongs.

Nice work!
