I took a random photo of my -- at that moment-- less than willing daughter. The result was mediocre (see attached below), but I am happy with the final product.
![]() To get to the final, I used Aperture 2 to make minor adjustments: levels, exposure, etc. I then used Photoshop Elements 6 (a new program for me. As are working with layers.) and this tutorial for a "dramatic gritty effect". While PSE couldn't perform all the steps (no color curves in PSE that I know of) because the tutorial is written for Photoshop, I was able to come pretty close. I transported the image back into Aperture and converted it to black and white, and tweaked the settings off the monochrome with blue filter. I then cropped to get the final result. In hindsight, I may have dodged the eye-whites a little much on the Flickr image, and have since burned them back a bit.

nice. There is a color curve in photoshop Elemtents 6. Its under Enhance, adjust color, adjust color curve.

Thanks Bashfulsue. I had actually been in that color curve at some point while exploring PSE but mistook it for something else.
