Arrow The Moon Listens as the Bell Tolls Early in the Morn

Taken back in August 2007, I always thought this was a pretty decent photograph of one of the more popular buildings on our university campus with the moon in the background. I had taken a couple that day and this one always stood out to me because you could see the reflection of the sky in the 'window' of the clock tower.

In going back through some of my shots, I decided to play with this a bit since I've learned so much since then about Photoshop. I liked the end result and thought it made a decent shot really pop.

What do you think?

Before:
Clocktower & Moon - Before

Cloned building out bottom right
Duplicated background layer
levels adjustment layer
curves adjustment layer
color balance layer
selected and brightened the moon
unsharp masked moon to bring out more detail
merge visable layers
straightened (in Picasa3)

Result:
Clocktower & Moon - After

Thanks for looking!

Thanks WolfD60. I'm working on using layers more for adjustments as well. It's nice to be able to modify a curve or level or something after you've made other changes without losing every thing else you've done since.

I'm thinking I may have overdone the blueness of the sky a tad, but ...oh well.

Yeah, that blue is way our of gamut, and will print much darker and flatter than what you're seeing on screen.
Also, you might want to go back and clean up your clone marks. I can see them

quick tip, you can preview out of gamut areas by View -> Gamut Warning. Any areas that are out of gamut will turn grey.

Thumbs up Learn something new every day...

Thanks Japa and glyphon! I'll try to remember to check the gamut. I never knew about that.
