I am shooting with a Sony a300. iPhoto seems to be the only way to import my RAW (.arw) files. When I try to import RAW files directly into Photoshop from either the camera, separate file or iPhoto, I only get a screen of gray, like before cable when you couldn't tune the channel in. Any suggestions? Thanks.
p.s. I love all of the tutorials and posts everyone has contributed. What a wealth of knowledge from first hand practical experience. |

You might need to go to the Adobe site to get the converter for that type of camera.

After taking the advice, I downloaded the update. Then I looked at the read me info and discovered what you just told me... that I need CS3 and higher. I am outdated with CS, the first version, so I'll have to see if the Converter app will make things better. I was curious at the time why, when I would select "import" that it never gave me a RAW option. I would only have the option if I selected "OPEN", but to no avail... like I said, hopefully the converter will help. Now to experiment and find out how to use that...
I'm hoping that the converter will somehow keep the raw format in tact... what would the point be otherwise, right? Thanks for your advice (both). If anyone else comes across the post and has more insight, it is welcomed. Last edited by bulldog413; 01-17-2009 at 04:48 PM. |

Hi bulldog - it sounds like you're almost there - I use the DNG convertor from Adobe and this works ok for me. See Importing RAW into Adobe Photoshop, even if your camera isn't supported.
To get this working I downloaded both DNG/CameraRaw v2.4 (which updated my Photoshop CS ACR dialog to the latest version available, including support for DNG), and then also the latest DNG/CameraRaw availble (to give me a DNG convertor that supports my camera - Nikon D80). So following conversion to DNG, I can now import all my raw files into Photoshop CS ACR. Cheers, Martin.

Photoshop CS4 also comes with Bridge which has a very useful import wizard, which lets you import raw, Tiffs and Jpegs.
