Default My wife

Before:

My wife without a bunad (before version)

After:

My wife without bunad

Looking at these two images side by side, the post-processing probably looks a little overdone, but I like it. What I originally intended to do was to manipulate the pictures the same way as Jill Greenberg (Amy Dresser?) but during the process I found out that it was better to make it a little more subtle. Here's what I did:

1. Increase the clarity to 30 in Camera Raw

2. In Photoshop, duplicate the background layer.

Skin treatment:

3. Choose the Dodge tool (range: Highlights and exposure: 5-10%) with a pretty large brush (I used 500 px on a high-res photo)

4. Dodge the bright areas on the skin (the duplicated layer) but be careful so they don't become blown out.

5. Choose Burn tool (range: shadows and exposure: 5-10%) with the same radius as the Dodge tool.

6. Burn the dark areas on the skin.

7. Adjust the opacity on this layer (I used 70%)

Make-up

1. Pick the color on the lips.

2. Make a new layer and paint over the lips with that color.

3. Choose blending mode Overlay

4. Repeat step 1-3 for the make-up around the eyes, except don't pick the lip color(). You can pick the make-up color that's allready there or choose another color from the swatch panel.

Finito.

Beautiful. I don't think overdone at all! So, we are going to have a little zetson running around in a couple months, right?

Thank you, Lori! You're right, it's not overdone. I just got that feeling when I compared these two while writing the post.

Yes, mini-me is scheduled to arrive in late February, but our midwife suspects that it will come out in January, so we'll see. We're quite impatient both of us, but we hope it's a 2009 model and not a 2008....

I too really like what you have done here. It really brings out the details. It also helps when you have someone who is great looking to start with doesnt it!

Good work Zetson

Funnily enough I was thinking about your expected baby today whilst I was driving, was meaning to ask how things were going. I assume now all is ok.

If you have only just taken that she seems to have taken pregnancy extremely well.

I really like what you did overall but my only thing is that w/ the new skin tone, it almost makes it look blotchy (IMO). Maybe it's just her freckles, I dunno. I would just soften the skin a little.

Just my 2cents...
