Default saving a dark pic

This is not a photo i took so i hope it is ok to post my editing on it.
fish 1
for this photo i used 3 layers, one for foreground midground and background.
For background i used curves to bring out the colors and light also i used saturation to help with the color a bit. Then masked out mid and foreground.
Mid ground i used curves also then masked back and foreground.
For the guy and fish i used curves, saturation, layers, screen blending mode, gaussian blur and masked the rest of the pic. Flattened the image together and i was done. Hope you all like it

Thank you for the advice,i have taken this picture back into the shop and worked on the sky.

Your after shot is much better. I just find that the sky is very light, looks almost overexposed.

probably, next time, try to mask the clouds as well and maybe reduced the opacity...to taste.

Big improvement on the sky. What a difference between the two photos. I like.

Big improvement over the original dark image, but the water and sky look too purple to me.

I'd straighten the horizon too.

Big improvement. I hope you got permission to tweak and post from the owner, though.
