Great use of selective coloring!

i did the same thing with a few passionfruits growing on the fence in my back yard. selective colouring is such a great method of drawing attention to a certain object in a photo. i'm also fairly new to photoshop.

Lovin the pic ray, it looks like there's a lot going on in your pic but the selective colouring really focuses the eye and makes the pic a lot more interesting. Its quite easy to do on photoshop I'm in danger or selective colouring everything!

I think you have done a good job of making the shot more interesting. Very nice in selective colouring.

Hi yanarefik and welcome to dps.com! I find this sight really useful for tips and ideas, I check it everyday for new articles, absolutely love it!

Back to colour selecting, I don't know the technical terms but I used Photoshop CS3 but I believe you can also use PS elements. All I did was used the magic wand to select the area I wanted to retain its colour in the final pic and created a layer of it (right click > copy to new layer). Then I just selected the backgroud layer and turned it to black and white and hey presto! A pretty cool looking pic. Let me know how you get on and definitely post it up on here! Good luck!

I do like what you did, but I have to say there's something really cool about the original, too. It has almost a vintage look to it.

Default My attempt

I never knew how this was done so thanks to the poster who briefly described the method. I used PSP9 and this is the before and after of my attempt

Parrot

colour selective

I will have to try another and do something different with the magic wand as I found selecting a bit hard. Perhaps I chose an image with the colour range too great?
Would have liked to have left out the vertical bar in front of the bird.
