Default Door to Heaven

I was playing with Orbs and came up with this. It looked like a doorway sitting in the sky, hence the name.
I couldn't help noticing the rejection schute at the bottom of the door. LOL.

Before:
Door to Heaven - before

After:
Door to Heaven

What I did in Photoshop CS3:
  • First I created the ORB using Filter>Distort>Polar Coordinates.
  • I then copied the layer twice.
  • On both new layers I added lighting using Filter>Render>Lighting effects.
  • I used Flash Light on both layers for the lighting and played around with the sizes.
  • Set the top layer to Overlay at 100% opacity, created a layer mask and lightly masked out some of the darkening in the palm trees caused by the flashlight layer.
  • Set the second layer to Linear Dodge at 17% opacity.
  • I then created a new layer and painted some white stars with the brush tool.
  • Set the opacity of the star layer to 48%.
  • Finally I cropped away the bottom part of the original Orb picture.

I just learnt how to create orbs today, so having fun playing around.

That's pretty cool. Doesn't look like anything "real", but an interesting image from "nothing". The basic technique might be usefull for doing those "sphere's" I've seen a few of which are intersting, or coming up with a unique logo or such (graphic arts work).

Not only is your image interesting, poinsiana, but the title attached gives makes it even more creative! I especially like the concept of the "rejection" chute!

Thanks everyone for the comments. I thought it was interesting the way it came out, as I was actually having some fun creating orbs from some of my photos and got a surprise to see what happened when I processed that one. Definitely not an ORB. Has anyone here tried ORB-ing their photos? It's amazing some of the results you can get.
