Default a rose by any other name...

I am testing out a macro lens, and I took this picture of a rose bud this weekend.

Before:Rose1

after:Rose1 bw

Workflow: I only did a few things to this image. I added a B&W layer, and brought up the reds a bit, and took down the yellows a bit to give some more contrast. I then added a sepia layer at approx. 75% opacity. Finally I cropped it to an 8x10 to get rid of the space on the left.

Which looks better? the color or the b&w/sepia? It was my first dabble into macro with this particular lens, and so far I am pleased. I am excited to see what else can be done with the macro lens.

Thanks candleman. I like the first as well, because I love orange/yellow roses. Honestly, I did the editing because I had this idea to make a print and give it to my sister-in-law for Christmas as a framed photo, and thought it looked more "professional" as a B&W print.

I appreicate your nice comment!

The rose is actually an orange climbing rose. I did tweak it a little bit in Camera RAW, but not much. I only tweaked it enough to bring out some of the subtle differences in the shades of orange/red. It was shot against a gray cinderblock foundation, and I wanted to make the background darker and the orange colors pop more.

I am still trying to decide if I will frame the color or B/W version...decisions, decisions..

*lol* I did see it there when I was processing it earlier today. I never noticed it on the actual flower though. Isn't it crazy how that happens?

The coloured one is absolutely lovely!! IMO the B&W has a sad feel to it. (well I felt when I first saw it). Beautiful capture.
