Default Black and White Daffodils

This is my first post to this website. so bear with me...
First picture was a mistake. New camera, accidently ended up in "P" mode, and the flash didn't go off. Didn't like the flash version of the picture so started playing in various photo editing programs with the RAW image.
Original daffodils
Camera: Canon EOS DIGITAL REBEL
Fstop: f/4
Shutter speed: 1/30 sec.
ISO setting: ISO-400

Next was white balance to bring back the yellow. Then converted to B&W using channel mixer. By tuning the blue filter down, the background goes to almost black. Used some color burn and soft light to bring up the texture.

Default wrong place?

From the total lack of response, I guess this was the wrong section to post in... Is there some guidance on where I might post to get feedback on processing techniques?

Hey M2,

What a nice save. I don't think I would have seen the potential you saw in your shot. Well done!
