Default Busy Background

I thought the background was to busy. The Giraffe didn't seem to standout from the background so:

I used Photoshop Elements 6 to select the giraffe (Quick Selection Tool)

Next I inverted the selection (Select>Inverse)

To desaturate the background I used Color Varitions (Enhance>Adjust Color>Color Variations).

I also soften the background (Filter>Noise>Median) a little to allow the giraffe to be more prominent in the shot.

Default Thanks everyone!

Thanks for the compliments.

I'm just started trying to PP using Gimp on a Mac. Not sure how much I like it. Have more success with PSE6.

Peace.

I like the fact you turned the brown stones into "concrete". Nice effect.

Default Very Nice

The results looked good, so i thought i would try the same thing, with gimp. I downloaded your picture (not sure if thats frowned upon or not) and then i had to use a free-select tool, i didn't have an intelligent one, and inverted the selection, and then under filter>noise i didn't have median so i used HSV (whatever that is) either way it turned out nearly the same, just not as nice. Wish i would have saved it so i could show you guys.

Be careful! Read the rules for each section of the forum. I don't mind that you used my photo but, their are others that wouldn't appreciate you downloading their work. From now on I plan on stating if I would allow a photo to be downloaded.

I have PSE6 and Gimp. Gimp is not as intuitive as PSE6. I prefer PSE6. I too tried the selection tools in Gimp and was not impressed. Corel's photo editing program isn't bad. Cost about 50 bucks PSE6 is about 80 buck depending where you get it from.
