Kudos, you did a marvelous job of matching the eyes to the rest of the photo. Perspective, levels, color, ect. can't tell it's been PP'ed at all.

Default what a good idea

what you did with the eyes was amazing and is proof that with a bit of patience you can fix anything. congratulations. If i were you I would also crop the picture a bit to fill the frame more and take away the red square in the left background and blur the background (or at least what is inside the man's arm. This is very easy compared to the eye job and I think will improve the picture. Great work

A good trick to make sure everyone has their eyes open at once is to tell everyone to close their eyes and then open them on your count of three.

It's the imagination that you have, that I'm first impressed with. Bravo!

Default You inspired me!!

About five years ago I did this very thing for my boss with one of her wedding photos. But when I tried to do the same thing for another photo a month ago, I couldn't remember what I'd done and it looked ridiculous! But your post inspired me to try harder I used your tips, and made a few tweaks, and I think I'm pretty happy with the result:

Opening Eyes

In case it's useful to anyone else, these are the steps I did differently: (I am using PS CS2):

To get the colouring right:
  • Open the main photo (eyes closed), roughly select the face, then crop the photo (this is temporary)
  • Open the photo the eyes are being borrowed from, roughly select the face, then chose: 'Image | adjustments | match colour'. Down the bottom under 'source' chose the cropped picture (eyes closed version). Adjust the luminance until the skin colours are well matched. After clicking OK hit ctrl+c to copy the face
  • Go back to the closed eyes version, choose 'File | Revert' to bring it back to full size. Then ctrl+v to paste the borrowed face into a new layer

Perspective
When the head is not at the same angle, the eyes must be tweaked to look natural. I couldn't figure out how to use perspective as suggested without also cropping the photo, so I instead used 'warp'. This is available while using the 'move' tool, it's located next to the cancel & confirm buttons, and seems to only be available after clicking on the edge as if I'm about to re-size.
