To get it B&W I used Bill's Black & White action. I was happy with the results, but wanted to play some more with it.

Brightness/Contrast adjustment layer at +22/+34. Level adjustment layer input at 0/0.84/255 and output at 0/155. Various curves work. Finally, a layer of straight #CC0000 with a blending mode of color at 44%.

I also have one without the layer of red. I'm not sure which of the endings I like better.

I'll probably be offering them up as a critique in the next few days also.

I'd like to see it large enough to be able to read the writing, to see if the mood of the text matches with the rather menacing mood of the post-processing.

Here it is so people don't have to try to read my handwriting. It was homework that I didn't need to turn in, so having whole sentences wasn't a big priority for me.

- Purpose: show irony that being unique is conforming; show conforming nature of American society
- POV: author = reporter reader=readers of Miami Tribune people w/tattoos people who think tattoos are nasty
- Q&I: Is having a tattoo unique? Does it serve same purpose as before? Will (non)conforming flip to other side? Accepted by today's society?
- Assumptions: must think everyone has ink; people know designs named; style will adope older person's issues; types of tattoos
- Implications: older people will get tattoos; conformity will flip
- Info: % (w/ages) w/tattoos; religious thought; type of narrative; type of tattoo; history
- Concepts: (non)conformity; tattoo; individuality
- Conclusion: getting hard to guess who has tattoo; having a tattoo will be conforming

Unless you want to see it as homework is foreboding, I don't think the subject is all that dark.

In that case, I think the treatment is a bit wasted on the subject... but an excellent try out for if you do find some more moody writing.

If it was a finished thing for real, I'd agree. But since it was mostly an experiemnt...

Now that I know I can do it I'll write something that fits it better.
