Default young SJH, but you are not a PPer yet!

Ok, this shot was taken with a flash angled from above:

Taking a black and a white person together is a challenge for me without washing out one, or making the other a shadow.

So, now that I am a PP padawan (I gotta change my TV from the sci-fi channel one of these days), I lassoed Mage and played with the levels to make this:

Hmm. Colour and WB is still off. Ok, I will use colour variations instead of a colour cast this time, and viola!

How does that look? People have said that I make too much of a blue tint in my shots, so if it is again, please tell me. I can tell you, it's not my monitor because it looks right to me on my desktop and TV. I think I'm just slightly colorblind or something.

SJH Foto, please calibrate your monitor. Buy or borrow a calibrator. In that case, you can eliminate a possible source of error. An uncalibrated monitor can look good when you are used to it.

X2. As I mentioned in one of your other threads, you need to start with calibrating your monitor(s)...then give the PP work a shot.

My workflow is so that I edit on only two PCs in my house and both of those are calibrated on a regular basis. While I have 6 PCs in the house by only editing on two I can keep them calibrated and know that I have a baseline that I am starting from.

I also use Lightroom so that my originals are not touched and they are saved and backed up on a regular basis (goes to your comment about not having the space to save you PP steps or something like that in another thread).

Good luck, but you are being given very sound advice about the calibration...think about it!

Nice work with Mage (that's "stomach" in Norwegian BTW).

I don't like the blue cast in the final photo. The colors in the previous shots look better. I don't know PS Elements 2.0, but is there a function called Color Cast? Or do you add a color layer?

I can do both. So pic #2 is where I should have stopped?

In terms of blues, I think you should have stopped at number 2.

mage's left upper arm is still washed out, kind of the lightest area in the photo so draws my eye.

good job as that was a tough one to do.

SJH Foto - You can clearly see the blue cast in the black wall between their heads in the third photo, when comparing it to the original. The second one is better.

Do you have a color sampler tool in PSE2? If you do you chould always check that on white spots to see if the blue number is higher then the rest. That way if your screen is off and you're not seeing it, you'll still know.
