Default The PP is with you, young SJH

I'm trying to apply your advice and the info gleaned from Photoshop Elements 2.0 for dummies. Here is a shot from the anniversary party I just shot:

Obviously, everyone is WAY too dark. So, I did this:

I adjusted the levels, sharpened the image and did a colour cast. How's that?

bit too blue for me
what software are you using?
Through LR or ACR i'd suggest changing WB and upping Recovery
you did brighten it up though

Cheer!!!

Photoshop Elements 2.0 I can try better WB on the next one-I've still got slighly less than 150 to go!

I took a quick shot at fixing this for you. If I over stepped the bounds, and you want me to delete it, I will. I realize that I didn't do a super job at masking, but this is only to show you what you can do. I used photoshop CS3, but I didn't use any tools that shouldn't be in Elements 2.

What I did, was duplicate the background, selected the people with quick mask. (I think Elements has this tool) I then adjusted the levels, moving the "white" point to where the histogram becomes a flat line. I then flattened the image and saved.

quick fix

The background looked good, so I left it alone.

This can be fixed, with one click in ACR raw converter.

I don't mind anyone fixing or altering any of my images as long as it's done in good taste (aka don't take my subject's face and put it on a naked body)

How are you adjusting levels? Are you making sure to not clip the highlights and shadows? I will usually do a couple of levels adjustments. One for overall levels and then another just for the faces. This helps to keep from blowing out highlights in the rest of the shot.

Actually, yes I am. Especially for my black subjects since they need more brightening, I do a levels and then lasso their faces and do another levels.

Is this better colouring. I adjusted the levels the same way, and did the color cast differently.
