I saw this bird at Sea World standing on the edge of a dock. It was patience enough to allow me to get a angle with less distractions in the background.
![]() In Lightroom 1 Increase exposure 0.25 steps 2. Converted to Grayscale 3. Added some brown hue to the shadows for a slight warm tone 4. Exported to Photoshop In Photoshop 1. Painted over the background with black 2. A little dodging on the bird’s tail feathers

A B/W conversion on something that is already white, always has a really cool effect - I like the B/W one better...

Thanks for the comments. I have an 8 X 12 of the B&W in my office. My wife does not like B&W pictures, which is a shame because B&W is my favorite type of photography. I am considering dedicating a year or so to concentrate on B&W photography. Of course that would mean a year of no pictures that my family likes

That is beautiful, and I bet it does look gorgeous in a print!

I much prefer the original. The slight blue cast gives it a ghostly look that you lose in the B&W.
Either way it's a great shot

I like the original too. Subtle blue is nice.
