Exclamation Jesus Bird!

Walks on water!

This is a flamingo shot I tried to salvage because I thought the movement was so great and it's very odd to see a flamingo in anything but a graceful pose. I got a couple of shots of this bird having a "moment" but this one had him fully in frame. Unfortunately the reflection from the water caused some backlighting and I know my settings probably weren't the best. If you can do a better job of saving him please have at it! I really just wanted to share though so enjoy!

After attempted salvage:

I have never seen a Live flamingo, but i think its well salvaged. Maybe, just maybe a tad too saturated.

Did you use dodge and burn? Or did you just played around curves - shadow/highlight - brightness/contrast?

You could always try to use a desaturated-inversed-blurred-overlay layer (opacity under 50 looks better)?

Again, nice save and nice action shot!

I selected the flamingo with the magic tool and used curves and some shadow highlight on him. I made some adjustments on hue/saturation. I couldn't really tell you exacts since I go by eye on it and usually don't track my steps...maybe I should make a habit of this

I would do what you suggest, but honestly I've been using photoshop less than a month so I don't know how! maybe when I figure it out I'll try it. Thanks

Haha! I have never seen them moving either! He looks so awkward and comical! Cool catch!

Most of the flamingos I've seen are a very pale shade of pink - much closer to your original shot - but I wasn't there and couldn't tell you what you saw.

Either way, it's a great capture

Nice shot! Have you thought about trying to make the water bluer?

Yes actually - I do want to make the water bluer and tone down the bird some. It will take a little more work though since some of the water (the water is as it came out from the camera) is a gray color and very desaturated. This first was a quick rough edit so I'm going to toy with it some more and re post the result here for you guys and you can let me know if you think it works! thanks all for the replies

How's this for a second try?

Better? What else can I do? I really want to make this photo as good as I can get it...
