Default lab lab rescue.....

this is a lab lab vine.....pretty plant, but i wasn't real thrilled with my shooting.....the colors are dull and the crop awkward.....

IMG_8722

in post i applied a levels adjustment layer to pull up the overall contrast and tweak the channels for more depth and color....bringing the leaf color back to what my eye sees everyday.....i went for a square crop to highlight the symmetry and sent the background to an even darker layer so that the three leaves would stand out.....i added a soft vignette....and finished with a sharpening of the main three leaves to wind up with this.....

anyone who has ever seen a lab lab vine can appreciate wanting their image to reflect it's nature......i just hope i did it justice....

thanks

I love what you did with it!

Looks terrific! Thanks for sharing the post. I've done little PP, so this will be helpful.

Very nicely done. How did you tweak the color to turn the veins blue?
I find the top partial leafs somewhat distracting but averall a very nice effect. Maybe a layer mask to darkenl them.

Looks nice and different. Were you just playing around with curves or you had a purpose for it? Just curious..

the pumped up color came from using a levels adjustment layer.....i clicked on the "enhance per channel contrast" to start with and then went through the separate channels to tweak it even further......and by the way, that distracting leaf was even more distracting before pp....i guess i didn't use a heavy enough hand....(like i overdid with the levels) to correct it.....

thanks....at the onset of pp, i did have a purpose.....i wanted to bring in some of the very bright magentas and blues and almost aquas that were natural to the leaf.....it was such a poor image to begin with, so i took a much heavier approach than i normally take.....also, this monitor is new to me last week and i let adobe gamma calibrate my monitor......so at the time, the colors were rich alright, but nothing so dark and blue as what i saw after calibrating with spyder last night......so, yes.....it's pretty overboard......

thanks for giving me your time, everyone.....

Hey Peep, what an incredible job you did at taking a so so photo and turning it into something that really pops! Kudos to you
