Default Opps! the Baby is Here?

I went to a baby shower today for an extended family member. I was all excited, going to get her to let me do a few maternity shots. I felt so stupid when I found out she had the baby last week! Anyway, with everyone holding the little one, I didn't get anything fantastic. But mom and i made arrangements to get together to do some infant shots. This is a shot of the grandmother (my aunt) and the baby. It was just a snap shot a took when I looked across the room and saw her loving on the little one.

Original
Paula Baby Shower 091

After
Nancy and Dalton 1

Here's what I did:
Duplicate Layer
Cloned out the dark wood in the floor, the dark pink in the shirt in the lower corner, and the picture frame growing out of babies head.
Used the Eliptical tool to make a selection with a feather of 30
Inverse
New Layer Via Copy
Gaussian Blur of 250
And of course the normal levels and curves.

Adorable! I use a similar technique a lot because I'm sometimes bad at paying attention to background elements

Thank you all so much!

Kim-- I use Photoshop 7.0 I'm not familiar with elements, so I don't know if you can or not. But if you can't, I would be more than happy to do it for you if just e-mail me the pic.

Thanks lissy, I wonder what the difference is in your photoshop and mine thats photoshop elements 6.o. Is this the procedure called vignetting?

I guess it is one type of vignetting. Of course I always consider that using color. By the way, I looked at a friends photoshop elements and it seems a lot more user friendly than photoshop 7. I think photoshop 7 allows a lot more user control though. But that also means doing everything from scratch unless you find some actions, which never work quite right for me anyway.
