Default Rising Sun

On a recent trip to Disney World, as I first entered one of the parks in the morning, I saw the sun peeking out from behind Spaceship Earth, the park's most recognizable feature. While shooting into the sun is not the usual way to photograph this icon, I decided to give it a try, knowing full well that I most likely would not get a usable shot. This was the result:

Aperture: f/8
Shutter speed: 1/1250
ISO: 100
Lens: Nikkor 18-55 f/3.5-5.6 AF-S DX VR
Focal length: 22 mm

When I got home, I attempted to get a presentable image, using Photoshop CS5.5

First, working in Adobe Camera Raw I created 2 images - one exposed for the sky and sun, and one for Spaceship Earth. I then placed the sky balanced image on a layer on top of the Spaceship Earth balanced image. I masked out everything but the sky and the trees from the top image, and then brightened the trees. The result was this:

The difference is amazing. Perhaps it could have been cropped more to get rid of those heads.
