Default Portrait B4 & After

I was asked what PP I did on a portrait I did in the SYS section, so I thought I would post it here.

SOOC

After

First thing I did was work on the BG. I used the quick selection tool to isolate the subject and furniture I wanted. I then used the clone tool and painted away the stuff I did not want. Anywhere where I had brush marks, I blended them in with the patch tool.

I adjusted levels.

On the subject, I used the patch tool to remove the double chin and spot healing for any little blemishes I wanted removed. I also used the dodge & burn tools where I felt were appropriate

I slightly desaturated the image, and created a duplicate layer, which I complete desaturated. I then used a high pass filter set around 80% over the duplicate layer. I used overlay to blend the layers. I then set the opacity at the level to get the look I wanted.

Flattened and saved.

IT'S THE MASONS!
*RUNS*

Only thing I'm not 100% on is the way the peak of the chair and the crown of his head interact.

Um, that's not the chair. It's an unfortunate birth defect.

That has been the thing bugging me too Adam. It needed to be shot in front of the chair, which is on a raised stage. When I was on ground level, it came out both sides of his head which did not work. I stood on a chair for this shot, which was a bit better. I think for future reference, I will need to bring a step ladder to put the head down into the chair. Maybe then use a kicker for some separation

That's what I was about to suggest..

...also, maybe it's some weird optical illusion, but is the seat straight? I feel like it's off a couple of degrees, leaning left.

I like the lighting on his dome though...nicely done.
