Default from color to b&w

Here is a picture of my son that I really liked but I had to add more lights to the background in PSE 7, I liked it in color but thought I would give a try at converting it to black and white. I used the raw converter, desturated and played around with the brightness and contrast. I think it turned out good. But does the head being cut off ruin the picture? Thanks for looking and any helpful suggetions are appreciated.

The light coming predominantly from the bottom casts shadows in an unexpected way. I think I prefer the colour version.

I like the B&W. No, I don't think that his head being cut off is that bad. Usually it ruins a picture, but it actually doesn't bother me in this one. I like the bokeh in the background.
Nice edit, IMO.

Thanks for your input, I thought the head being cut off was okay but then again i love his smiling face so I figured I wasnt being objective enough. I appreciate you taking the time to respond. I just posted this over in the critique section to really put myself out there.
