Default Water Wall Wonder

BEFORE
This is the before picture I took of the water wall in Houston, TX. I didn't have a digital camera yet, so I was using my Nikon 35 mm camera.

AFTER
I edited this photo by first cropping it, then I changed it to black and white, and finally I added a spotlight. I used Kodak EasyShare Software for editing. I love the way this photo turned out after editing because of the different lines, texture, and contrastand making a more dramatic effect. (Bear with me, still learning correct terminology!)

Note: I actually entered this photo in an online photo contest. They said I won several awards, but I was suspicious because they wanted me to send them money to join ISP (International Society of Photographers), pay to go to the convention in Las Vegas, and pay to have my photo included in their book. Well, I never sent them any money, and I didn't go to the convention. They still keep e-mailing me that I can still have my awards, but I have to pay $169 for shipping. They may actually be legitimate, but it sounds fishy to me. Anyway, sorry for the long story, but thought some of you may have had this happen to you too or you may be interested to know.

I would love to know what you guys think of the finished photo as well as any ideas that I could do to make it better. Thanks!! D.D.

Really love the edited shot!! The original is just ok but the processed verion is so much better! I love the crop and b&w effect... only point I'd have is that maybe the vingette effect encroaches a bit too much into the centre of the photo... I'd have liked to see more of the picture on the right and left. But other than that, really nice work!!

nice shot, really like that crop
The ISP is fishy. It's pretty much paying to win an award that doesn't exist. Same thing happened to a friend. Beware!

I agree that the vignette is a little too far in for my taste, but the b & W effect is really great. The first shot is nice, but the second one really pops.

Love the edited version..
Too much dark (the vignette)..if u want to keep that vignette, crop again for the left/right borders

Regards

Was this at www.picture.com? The same thing happened when I submitted a picture of Lilly, my little pomeranian. Can't remember if I 'won anything', but they were going to put it in a coffee table book or something...but you gotta pay.

Didn't do it. While I thought it was good, I thought my leg was getting pulled. But I just adore Lilly!

Nice cropping and b&w really works. The photo could use a little straightening and less vignetting. The huge expanse of black on each end does not add anything and actually takes away from the sense of scale of the waterfall structure.
