Default Light Bright!

So the flash really killed this picture of my friends and I during one of our last formals together in UBC Well I took the RAW file after and tried to fix it up! I haven't played with RAW files very much so I'm not good at editing. The picture still looks a little off in terms of flesh tone and brightness but I can't seem to get it right. Opinions and suggestions?

The RAW straight out of my S3IS:

Um...I can't say I remember exactly how it was edited it. I opened it in CS2, decrease the exposure and brightness, increased the shadows, saturation and tweaked the temperature and hue until I got something that looked decent.

FYI: if you were thinking "I thought the S-series can't shoot in RAW" you're right.... unless you install a 3rd party firmware on your SD card that saves pictures in RAW before they get processed! Very neat trick I picked up that edges me further into the photog realm

I think it was a good edit. The colors in the first shot look off, but in the second shot, they look very true. To me, it does look a wee bit "flat", so I might bump up the contrast a tiny bit more. But overall it's a great edit, I think.

Great work
I suggest more contrast, and cropping (to keep just your friends on the pic)

Regards

Kamuel....nice work!
On a side note I think a little write up and a link to the app you saved on the SD card to save RAW format would be very helpful to many of the S-series shooters here.....
If you decide to write it it would be best placed in the General Chit Chat so it gets the most exposure.....
I never knew they even had such apps.....I am 100% sure all would appreciate this little tidbit!

My eyes always go to the flash. You could crop it out or heal brush it. That is my 2 cents.

Hi I dont know if we are allow to play with photos on this forum like my others forum i am a member of...if you dont like my play on yours i can take it down...

I did 2 duplicate layers- one a soft light and one multiply(to darken), then and adjustment layer for hue and saturation and I removed reds, yellows and magentas....lighted shadows just a bit and boosted midtone constrast...and did a smoothing action...I know its still a little bright but my Lightroom has not arrived yet and my trial is up i would probably lower the exposure just a bit...

Your final picture just look very red and orange, so I would remove those cast..

I realize mine is still blown..elements 5.0 can only do so much and I am waiting for my Lightroom to arrive
The pp pic he posted still has a strange cast to the skin...I guess I was trying to show him that he could get rid of the cast and then take care of the exposure...when I look at the picture he did the skin still looks off like he thought...
